Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen will attend a closed-door consultation meeting today over plans to roll out offshore wind turbines and transformation lines. Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says there’s a lot of community concern around the impact offshore wind turbines will have on the environment. The offshore wind zone has triggered a fierce response from an alliance of fishermen, tourism operators, environmentalists, and residents. “If you think it’s no good to have an oil platform off the coast of New Castle, like one or two platforms, how do you think it’s okay to have hundreds of wind turbines?” Mr Canavan told Sky News Australia. “They’ve got the same amount of drilling that has to occur; there’s issues potentially around the noise that they create long term.”
