The Melbourne community are rallying behind the family of 27-year-old Katie Tangey, who died in a fire this week when arsonists targeted the wrong home.

Tangey, a beloved burlesque star who performed under the stage name Vivien May-Royale, died when flames engulfed a three-storey home on Dover Street in Truganina about 2am on Thursday.

Tangey had been housesitting for her brother Ethan, who had been overseas on honeymoon with his wife Brooke. "We cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering both Brooke and Ethan are facing at this difficult time, and everybody who knows them, understands just how loved and cherished they are by everybody around them," a GoFundMe page set up to support the pair said.
