After working as a veterinarian in Tamworth for more than 30 years, Robyn Edleston says the need for change in the industry has never been more urgent.

, Dr Edleston said more needed to be done to entice trained vets back to the gruelling industry and better support them."We need to be more flexible with our work hours or more realistic with our work hours," she said.

The inquiry's chairman, Shooter, Fishers and Farmers member Mark Banasiak, said the issue had previously come up in other inquires, including into animal welfare and flooding in the state's north. The terms of reference include looking at "the burnout and mental health issues facing the profession", and provisions for after-hours services.

Worker shortages, increasing demand and mental health issues are just some of the problems affecting the vet industry.
