A competitor has died after being pulled from the water unconscious during the Noosa triathlon. Police confirmed the death of a 53-year-old Melbourne man who was participating in the 40th anniversary Noosa race on Sunday morning.

Noosa triathlete passes away after medical episode. Around 7.50am, the man was pulled from the water near Noosa Main Beach unresponsive. Emergency services attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene. Event organisers said the age group triathlete received immediate aid from fellow competitors towards the end of the swim. He was taken from the water for continued medical assistance by water safety and medical personnel.
