Asbestos has been found in contaminated garden mulch at more than 20 sites across Sydney. One of the most recent detection sites was at Harmony Park in Surry Hills, a popular place for families and dog owners. Mulch contaminated with highly hazardous friable asbestos was detected. Particles of less dangerous bonded asbestos were also uncovered at nearby Victoria and Belmore Parks.NSW Premier Chris Minns described the contamination as 'completely unacceptable'. Asbestos was also detected at the Industrie warehouse in Bankstown, and a small trace of bonded asbestos was identified in recycled mulch in a garden bed of the Parramatta Light Rail project at Telopea.
