Comscore Fined $5M for Accounting Fraud

The data analytics firm's former CEO, Serge Matta, has also been charged with making false and misleading statements about its performance metrics.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has charged media analytics firm Comscore and its one-time CEO with accounting and disclosure fraud.

Matta will also reimburse Comscore the $2.1 million he made through the sale of the company's stock or incentive-based compensation. He will also be prohibited from serving as an executive officer or director of a public company for 10 years. Comscore, which was founded in the late 1990s and counts WPP as an investor, has been in a period of turmoil, losing money and seeing a revolving door of executives. CEO Bryan Wiener resigned from his post in March after a little more than a year, saying at the time that he had "irreconcilable differences" with the board over the company's strategy.
