The humpback whale was first seen on Wednesday morning about 500 metres off Balgal Beach, north of Townsville. Balgal Beach locals Mark and Kim Oliver said they were out in their boat whale watching when they noticed the mother and calf. "At first we thought mum was dead or caught in a trap because it was tipped on its side, and then it actually blew air.Mark and Kim Oliver say they spotted a pod of five humpback whales before spotting the injured whale.
