An Indigenous elder says he was turned away from voting for the Voice to Parliament because he was wearing a Yes campaign shirt.
Uncle Valentine Brown said he was turned away from voting for the Voice referendum because he was wearing a Yes campaign shirt
Mr Brown said he contacted the Australian Electoral Commission , who advised he could in fact wear the shirt to vote. "If a voter simply wears campaign material into the polling place, casts their vote and leaves, it likely won't contravene the act," the AEC spokesperson said. "It could be a real issue on polling day if people turn up late and have nothing else to wear," he said.An AEC spokesperson said it wanted everyone to have a positive experience when visiting polling places.
