Labor has brought forward its first home buyer guarantee scheme for regional purchasers by three months.

Regional buyers who can demonstrate they have lived in communities where they are purchasing for at least 12 months will be able to get access to the scheme and avoid paying mortgage insurance. About $200 million will go to repair and maintenance of properties in remote Indigenous communities, while $100 million is slated for domestic violence crisis and transitional housing and $30 million for specialist housing for veterans. Ms Collins said the former Morrison government had squandered the opportunity to work effectively with the states and territories, leaving a ministerial council dormant for five years.
