The incumbent hopes his latest re-election bid won’t be marred by past accusations that he created a hostile environment for employees.

But the assessor, who’s served since 1994 and ran unopposed in 2018 for his current four-year term, has weathered the storms and managed to continue piling up victories. His only political defeat came two years ago when he picked up just 33% of the vote in an unsuccessful bid to unseat Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover for his District 5 seat in a runoff election.

In an email to this news organization, Kramer denied the allegations, maintaining his accusers “complained after they did not get the promotion they thought they deserved” and insisting that the 2020 misconduct trial exonerated him. He says that if voters re-elect him as assessor, it would be his final term in office before retirement.

“It’s important the analysis isn’t weighted one way or the other based on who owns the property,” Andrews said. “The rules need to be applied fairly across all properties in the county.”County assessors must uphold laws governing property assessments, the most notable one being Proposition 13. That initiative, which California voters approved in 1978, limits property taxes to 1% of their assessed value.

Until recently, she also served as CEO of Bay Area CoRoasters, a coffee roastery in Berkeley that different producers pay to use in a “shared-economy” business model — one of her first entrepreneurial ventures after receiving her master’s degree.
