The man has pleaded not guilty to ‘exit trafficking’ after taking his wife to Sudan in 2014

While on a trip back to Sudan, a mother left her children with her husband to go and cook for them. But when she returned from her parents’ place, her husband and two young kids had vanished, a Melbourne court has heard.

She called the Australian embassy and was allegedly told her visa had been cancelled after her husband informed the immigration department he had separated from her, the court heard.to be charged with the commonwealth offence of exit trafficking, has pleaded not guilty and denies any allegations that he deceived the woman into leaving Australia.

Saunders alleged over those two years, her husband became aggressive, violent and controlling with his wife, including “hitting her and threatening that she would die if she did not return to Sudan”. The family of four returned to Sudan on 15 September 2014, for what she was told was a holiday, he said.
