Man Utd were at their best when they reverted to type against Copenhagen on Wednesday night.
Erik ten Hag labelled it the best football he had seen his side play all season before a controversial red card halted Manchester United 's momentum and turned the game on its head.
There is an obvious desire from Ten Hag for his side to start controlling matches more and not rely on moments of magic or momentum to do their damage, but right now that is a tough ask. The result has been a makeshift motley crew of individuals signed by different managers who lack an overarching style of play, with temporary fixes needed at a time when a long-term vision has been required.
While it might be regressive to adopt the same style of play they wanted to move on from under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it still seems like the best short-term solution as they look to build confidence and wait for injured players to return to action. The second goal would also come from a fast counter-attack when Hojlund reacted superbly to tap into an empty net following Alejandro Garnacho's initial effort, a similar move to the one that nearly produced a third when the Danish forward raced at goal but dragged a low effort just wide of the far post.
