Convicted killer on the run after removing electronic tag while on parole in Sydney sallyrawsthorne

A man convicted of a double murder is on the run after removing his electronic monitoring ankle tag while on parole in Sydney's east.Damien Anthony Peters, 50, was last seen at Randwick's Prince of Wales Hospital about 4.15pm on Sunday. Police found Peters' monitoring device just over four hours later in Roma Avenue in nearby Kensington, about two kilometres from the hospital.

At the time, the court heard Mr Peters had stabbed Tereaupii Akai, 50, twice in the neck before cutting up his body and throwing it in a council bin.Then 33, Mr Peters had told the court that he killed his former flatmates after contracting HIV from Mr Akai and suffering years of mental and physical torture.

Mr Peters said he tried to leave Mr Akai several times but was always manipulated into staying at their unit in Surry Hills.Mr Peters told the court that he murdered Mr Frost eight months after Mr Akai because he was abused and manipulated by him.He took 40 valiums and had taken ice, and said he thought the mix sent him a "bit crazy".
