The system will weaken and shift eastward, which will bring more moderate weather through Monday. But the heat wave will begin to rebound Tuesday and will peak midweek, Gomberg said, as Southern California moves into its sweltering summer. Coastal areas were considerably cooler Saturday, with morning low clouds, fog and near-normal temperatures. Temperatures stayed in the low 70s in Santa Monica and Hawthorne and at Los Angeles International Airport. Downtown L.A. hit 80; Pasadena, 92; and Northridge, 85.
