Nick has faced many challenges in his life including drug addiction, homophobia, and being diagnosed with HIV, but says he's 'found a life' and a community in the Snowy Mountains town.

Help keep family & friends informed by sharing this articleIt's a crisp February morning in Cooma in the NSW Snowy Mountains where Nick Batson puts on a jumper to settle in for a chat behind an art gallery in his adopted home town.

He ended up returning to England for four years to recover, largely thanks to the help of his mother."She clicked into mother mode, saw her son in that state, and just took me home."In 2012, Nick moved back to Sydney, and a year later he ended up spontaneously tagging along with a housemate who was moving to Cooma.

Nick pushes the sleeves of his jumper to cover his knuckles and pushes past the cold, continuing to share the story of his past. Together they joined the Jindabyne-based group "Jindy Pride", which has helped bring isolated members of the LGBTIQIA+ community together since it was founded in 2021.

Sky News Senior Political Reporter Trudy McIntosh said there were some “fierce exchanges” between Greens Senator Nick McKim and the RBA Governor. “He acknowledged that this has been hurting households and he has been receiving letters, he said, from people who have been affected and with a very heavy heart he has been reading through and listening to people’s stories,” Ms McIntosh said. “But he argues that this is necessary to tackle inflation, which he says is corrosive in the economy and that is ‘way too high’.”
