County health officials say the presence of E.Coli bacteria indicates that the water may be contaminated
San Diego County issued a boil water advisory Thursday for the Coronado and Imperial Beach areas, effective immediately, after E.Coli bacteria was found in the drinking water system.
Officials from the County Department of Environmental Health and Quality say the presence of E.Coli bacteria indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal waste.E.Coli may also pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems, county authorities said.Residents in affected areas should boil all water for three minutes and let it cool before using it, according to county officials.
Residents are also encouraged to use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice. The boil water order will remain in effect until laboratory results confirm the absence of bacteria in the water supply.
