"Our sporting stars are leaders of our community, young people look up to them, and just what I've heard suggests these two blokes deserve to be sent home. It's good to see they've been sent home, the AFL has acted pretty strongly, a 10-week ban is a very significant ban," Mr Miles said.
Health Minister Steven Miles said the island communities were particularly vulnerable and authorities had considered the islands a higher risk during the pandemic, urging island residents to closely monitor their own health. Mr Miles said there was "no cause for panic" or undue concern, with health authorities working with the local Redland City Council to manage the case.
The anti-lockdown advocates planned rallies across the country on Saturday, including in Melbourne where large gatherings are prohibited under COVID-19 restrictions.
