We'll take all the good news we can get. After 12 consecutive weeks of increases in coronavirus cases per 100,000 Ohio residents, Thursday saw the first decline.
The Ohio Department of Health calculated Thursday’s figure by adding cases with symptom onsets between Jan. 13 and Wednesday. The figure excludes incarcerated people.
Despite the decline on Thursday, cases remain high compared to early last summer, before the delta and omicron variants emerged, Ohio Department of Health Director Bruce Vanderhoff said. For instance, on July 8, cases coronavirus cases averaged 19.2 per 100,000 residents. The federal government considers communities with a seven-day average of over 100 cases per 100,000 residents an area of high transmission.considered lifting public health orders once cases hit 50 per 100,000 residents for two weeks.
