Extra police to patrol Queensland as restrictions ease this weekend
Extra police will be on patrol in Queensland this weekend to ensure coronavirus rules are being followed particularly at beaches and parks, Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said.
From Saturday, Queenslanders will be able to leave their homes for recreation and the distance they can travel has been extended to 50 kilometres.Ride a motorbike, jet ski or boat for pleasure"Police will be out an about asking if you're from the same household, if you're keeping your distance, etcetera," she said.
State Disaster Coordinator Steve Gollschewski said Queensland had fewer new cases of COVID-19 because of the measures put in place, not in spite of them. "Although some restrictions are beginning to be eased, this is not a time to be complacent," he said. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced this morning that one new coronavirus case was confirmed in the state overnight.Ms Palaszczuk said it was "some more good news for Queensland".Ms Palaszczuk said the next two weeks were "crucial" in further curbing the spread of the disease, as the Government moved to ease some home confinement restrictions.Watch
