NSW has continued its run without a local coronavirus case, recording two new cases in hotel quarantine today. Follow our coverage here:
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has flagged he will raise "concerns" privately with the federal government over the news that only 13 per cent of aged care facilities that have experienced an COVID-19 outbreak have been visited by the regulator.
"We are having a royal commission into this sector and I think we're having it for a very, very good reason," he said. "The scientists - those who deal with this and have many decades of experience in the science of this virus and viruses like it tell us, as well as international experience – that indoor environments are 20 times more dangerous than outdoor – than outdoor environments," he said.
However, the state's testing rate has remained very low: there were 6381 coronavirus tests recorded during the latest 24-hour reporting period, only a couple of dozen up from the 6353 announced on Monday. In light of comments heard on the final day of the hotel quarantine inquiry, Premier Daniel Andrews has again defended his job.
Lawyers assisting the inquiry yesterday said that the state’s most senior public servant, Chris Eccles, Health Department chief Kym Peake, and Jobs Department secretary Simon Phemister may not have adequately raised serious issues over the quarantine program with their ministers."Yes, I believe they are," Mr Andrews responded.
