Social distancing restrictions could be lifted in as soon as four weeks, Prime Minister ScottMorrisonMP has said, but three requirements must first be met: more testing, better contact tracing and quicker reactions to outbreaks.

The global death toll from coronavirus has passed 130,000.

The modelling, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, predicts that Australia has identified almost all of the symptomatic cases in the country. Professor Murphy said there were 6,547 coronavirus cases in Australia, which has killed 63 Australians. More than 40 remain on ventilators.Professor Brendan Murphy said the current COVID-19 numbers in Australia look “very encouraging” for the future, and took time to specifically praise the handling on an outbreak in north-west Tasmania.

Professor Murphy said that despite the reduction in cases, Australians could not afford to lose focus.
