He identified these sources as breaches in hotel quarantine, remaining cases from the Cedar Meats outbreak and a lack of adherence to social distancing in some suburbs, which he said came within what his government was envisioning when they said they expected outbreaks as the economy reopened. Yesterday Victoria recorded 49 new cases - the largest single-day increase in more than two months and all of the new infections were locally acquired - so it will be interesting to see how the numbers are tracking.
A suppression strategy involves 'flattening the curve' of infection rates and then squashing any localised outbreaks that crop up, whereas an elimination strategy aims to prevent any trace of the virus circulating in the community. "The Department was advised yesterday by our Property Service Provider that a staff member of one of their cleaning subcontractors tested positive to COVID-19 on Saturday 27 June," he said.
