NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said declining case numbers in Victoria place her state "in a much better position", telling 2GB's Ben Fordham she wants to move to a "mindset of things we can do, rather than things we can't."
"I've tried to establish positive relationship [with Ms Palaszczuk] but it's a bit difficult when decisions are made without them telling us," she said, again calling on her northern neighbour to relax border restrictions. "I got a letter from [Sydney Lord Mayor] Clover Moore yesterday saying 'can we discuss this' and I'm happy to discuss it. Of course we can't have the crowds we [usually] do ... but I'm open-minded."Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has told Australians to brace for a "severe contraction" in the economy, with figures confirming the country is in recession to be released today.
"Based on current indications and the impact of the outbreak in Victoria, that will certainly have a negative impact on the economy," he said, again not wanting to give an estimate on the September figures.Paul Sakkal
