A coroner has called for a second medically supervised injecting room in Sydney after the drug-related death of a young man in a hospital toilet
.
"Each man died as a result of being discovered collapse in a publicly accessible, single occupancy toilet, with floor-to-ceiling doors which obscured the fact they had collapsed," Ms Grahame said. She added that while the causes of the men's deaths were different, "both men died of conditions where earlier discovery would have made a favourable outcome more likely".
Ms Grahame also recommended hospital cleaners and security staff carry naxolone, a spray capable of treating the effects of an opioid overdose, and be trained in providing immediate care to victims of a drug-related collapse.
