Competing at the Olympic Games in a pandemic has been an unusual experience for these Aussie athletes.
The coronavirus pandemic has made the Tokyo Olympics like no other – devoid of most of the fanfare and festivities that make the quadrennial event a celebration of sport and the international community.
"The bid that was originally around $US7 billion will end up three times that amount – we think it will ultimately cost the Japanese taxpayer around $US25 billion ," he told 7.30. The Olympic Games have been cancelled three times – once during World War I and twice during World War II – but this is the first time they have been postponed.
So far there have been 322 positive cases at the Games, including athletes, officials, volunteers and members of the media.
