The new restaurant opened last year and combines Greek and Italian cuisine in a quaint and cosy environment
With several new venues recently opening, such as CDJ and Freya's Grill, there's plenty to choose from if you fancy a meal out in my hometown. So I was somewhat surprised to discover I'd missed the opening of a Mediterranean restaurant, last year, right on my doorstep.
After taking my daughter Abigail and her friend Amelia up to the recently-refurbished playground at Blacksnape on a whim I decided to drive down Pole Lane to Secreto - and we weren't disappointed. Fortunately, perhaps as it was fairly early, about 5.30pm, they had a table for us but in the short time we were there it quickly filled up.Sat by the back window, next to a real stove, all three of us were impressed with the interior.
My tummy always directs me towards a pizza on the menu but I was keen to try at least one Greek dish so for a starter I chose the Greek pork sausage served with tzatziki - the most amazing dip in the world in my opinion. We all agreed this was the star of the show and I only wish I had ordered us one each instead of sharing one alongside a delicious cheesy garlic bread.
From across the restaurant I'd clocked another diner using a rather unusual implement to slice their pizza and the girls were utterly delighted when theirs arrived with a bicycle-shaped cutter. It seems as if I've become our cutlery correspondent after I marvelled at the pizza knife I was given when I visited San Marino at Belmont.
