The HFPA's planned comeback apparently involves adding hundreds of new Golden Globe voters to its ranks.
was held on April 4 to discuss the potential plan, which would increase the number of Golden Globe voters from 105 to around 300. Boehly reportedly told those present at the meeting that the HFPA would bring in new voters from a pool of international journalists recommended by film-festival directors. The journalists selected to vote for the Golden Globes would not become full-fledged HFPA members.
The HFPA’s target number of additional Golden Globe voters is reportedly to curry favor with Netflix, which Boehly said had insisted upon a 300-voter minimum. Boehly reportedly expressed hope that getting a streaming giant like Netflix to once again screen its projects for the HFPA and offer the organization press conferences would lead other media companies to follow suit. If the HFPA does not take this step forward, Boehly noted, the future of the entire organization could be in jeopardy.
