Air quality in Melbourne was considered 'good' according to the Environmental Protection Authority's AirWatch website at 9am on Monday, but it was expected to drop to 'poor' by the end of the day.
The familiar haze from bushfire smoke has blown back into Melbourne, with experts warning the skies are set to get worse.
The air quality in the state’s north-east would be "very poor" or "hazardous", in East Gippsland "poor" to "very poor", and in other parts of the state "moderate". "The good news is that there's no sign of weather conditions which will cause a spike in fire danger. City of Glen Eira community wellbeing director Peter Jones said the decision to close the pools was made to protect staff and visitors.
