Second Shire Liberal candidate fails to declare developer links | AngusGthompson
A two-time former Liberal mayor vying for another term on council has declared he is not a close associate of property developers despite having helmed a company with them.
While property developers are not banned from running for local government, candidates are required to declare if they are a developer or a close associate, and Labor and the Greens have repeatedly pushed to disqualify the occupation due to the potential for conflicts of interest in planning decisions.
Minghai and Wenqi Zhang are directors of developer Hansen Investment Corporation, while Wenqi is the sole director of Hansen Investment Group Australia, with Jiayi Cao as its key shareholder. The latter lists a number of residential and commercial projects in Sydney’s affluent eastern suburbs, as well as a luxury townhouse complex in Sylvania and projects in Rhodes and Ryde.
