Two blocks of flats previously owned by Lancaster City Council have been sold off to private ownership, with residents in complete worry about the future of their homes
Calls have been made for clarity over the future of council houses in Lancaster after changes around a regeneration project at the Mainway estate led to two blocks of flats being sold to a private developer. It comes as a protest was held outside the latest full meeting of Lancaster City Council in Morecambe and tenants then asked questions inside during the meeting.
Another Lancaster resident, Jim, who asked that only his first name was used, said: "The regeneration of Mainway has been discussed for as long as I've lived there, five years. There was a trial project at Lune House and Derby House, which was supposed to show how things would go. 'OUR HOMES NEED SORTING-OUT' Yvonne Garrett said she had lived in the Mainway area for 17 years in a maisonette. Speaking before the council meeting, she said: "I'm frustrated and tired with it all. Things need sorting on our homes. Windows don't fit. The walls are crumbling. The heating systems are old. Security and cleaning isn't good.
Stuart added: "The way things are going, it's impossible for people to get a home. I have also seen a few places in disrepair, and that dispirits people. We must hang-on to the housing that we have and improve it."
