The call has been made by the SNP group at Stirling Council following a Freedom of Information request.

Stirling SNP councillors have urged colleagues to report former Provost Douglas Dodds to the Ethical Standards Commission, following allegations of racist comments towards council staff. However, documents later released through a Freedom of Information request suggested concerns about gifts and alleged racist language had been raised.

Now, however, SNP councillors are demanding a full external probe and have lodged a motion, due to come before this Thursday’s full council meeting. SNP councillor Gerry McLaughlan said: “This truly is a long-running and sorry saga which has left a long shadow over the office of Provost. A spokesperson for the Scottish Conservative group told the Observer this week, however: “This is nothing more than a vendetta by the SNP.The SNP motion, lodged by Councillor McLaughlan and seconded by Councillor Farmer, cites allegations of breaches.“Therefore as a council we request that the Ethical Standards Commission investigate.”

The emails were obtained by SNP councillor Gerry McLaughlan via a Freedom of Information request to Stirling Council.
