San Diego couple are partnering with Sycuan tribe, which is leasing the property to the business
The county’s first licensed cannabis lounge, and the only one south of Los Angeles, will open next year near the waterfront in National City.
National City sees the consumption lounge as a way to curb the illicit market and offer a regulated space, as well as a new revenue stream to boost the local economy. Some raised concerns that because the lounge will be the only one south of West Hollywood, where the nation’s first marijuana café opened, Sessions would be overwhelmed with patrons. “Consumption lounges are a new concept that has not been thoroughly vetted,” she said. “Nor do we fully understand the negative ramifications.”
The city also issued its own list of conditions: adding visible signs asking patrons to respect adjacent neighborhoods, making sure odors generated by the business are not detectible outside the premises, hiring at least one, unarmed security guard and that all cannabis waste is properly disposed of.“We set the bar for what we want for our community and that means they’re gonna have all eyes on you … and you best be held to the highest of standards,” she said. “And I’m not talking about product.
