A couple has narrowly escaped a raging inferno on-board their luxury boat. 9News
Despite marine rescue authorities battling for more than two hours to fight the fire and keep the vessel afloat, the wreckage has now come to rest on the ocean floor with up to 2000 litres of diesel fuel still on-board.
Nearby boaters rushed to pluck the couple to safety in a moment of desperation as they leaped for their lives.Witnesses also told 9News that, at the time of the ordeal, they were worried the vessel may have snapped loose and caused further damage to other boats. Despite the environmental concerns that have been raised, the Rottnest Island Authority has defended the efforts undertaken to try and save the boat."I'm very confident that between the rangers and sea rescue, we've done everything to secure the site," Michelle Reynolds, the authority's executive director, said.
