Soon-to-be bride devastated as Grade-II listed venue appoints liquidators

A soon-to-be bride has had her dream wedding potentially ruined after the Grade-II listed venue she was due to get married at suddenly closed. Alya Newman, 33, and her partner Jamie are one of several couples who had planned to have a 2024 wedding at the historic Alfreton Hall.

However, at the start of February, Alya was contacted by her registrar advising her to contact Alfreton Hall as other couples had been having events cancelled at the venue. Since then the pair have struggled to get a concrete answer from the venue - being told that it was "for sale" or going under a "change of ownership".Alya said: "We have paid the full amount for our wedding we are ready to go. We are both concerned and upset that it potentially may not go ahead.

Alya added: "After speaking to Derbyshire Live, me and my partner have tried to get hold of Alfreton Hall with no reply or answer and I have also driven down to speak to someone in person to find the whole place is locked up and pitch black which has now added to my nerves. Since speaking to Derbyshire Live, Alya says that the parent charity that owns Alfreton Hall has confirmed that it will honour her pre-booked wedding. Derbyshire Live has not been able to reach the parent charity.
