The court heard that Mrs Rinehart, Australia’s richest woman, acknowledged “question marks” over the potential for future royalty claims from other WA mining families as part of discussions with Rio Tinto in the mid-2000s. Lawyers for both Wright and Hancock Prospecting have made reference to key elements of Rio Tinto’s liability on any potential claims to riches flowing from the Hope Downs mine throughout the trial.
