Aged care facilities are dealing with rising numbers of coronavirus cases, as facilities ask families to adhere to their rules while visiting loved ones to keep residents safe.

While the figure is below its record numbers of cases last summer – in early February more than 9000 residents were COVID-positive – the aged care sector has recorded about 200 new cases of the virus each week for the past three weeks. Tom Symondson, CEO of the Aged and Community Care Providers Association, the body representing aged care providers, said the figures were a reminder of the ongoing impact of the pandemic.
