Premiers around Australia are being urged to follow the lead of NSW and Victoria in dropping close contact isolation rules.
Business, retail and hospitality have hailed the end of isolation rules for household contacts of COVID-19 cases in NSW and Victoria to easeVictoria is also dumping its vaccinated economy that forces hospitality and retail venues to check vaccination certificates – dropped last week in Queensland. It has also dropped mask rules in primary schools, early childhood centres, hospitality, retail and events – dropped months ago in NSW.
“We hope that the other premiers fall into line and follow these decisions, so we are not running a multi-speed economy.”Paul Zahra, CEO of the Australian Retailers Association, said the isolation rules made no sense and 48 per cent of its members said the situation had worsened in the past month. “This is not the end of the pandemic; we will always tailor our restrictions as we have said from the outset over the last two years, from the circumstances that we find ourselves,” Mr Perrottet said. “But today is a day where the people of our state NSW can be incredibly proud. We have put downward pressure on our health system and that is because of the efforts and sacrifices people have made.Victoria is also dropping visitor restrictions for hospitals although mask requirements will remain.
All workplaces will be required to have COVID-safe plans, but just like they manage other occupational health and safety risks in their workplaces, it will be up to those workplaces to manage those plans,” Mr Foley said.
