Health Minister Mark Butler has announced a COVID-19 vaccine for at-risk children aged between six months and five years following a recommendation from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.
The Moderna jab will be available to children aged 6 months to under 5 years with severe immunocompromise, disability and/or complex health conditions which increase the risk of developing severe illness from COVID-19.
The Albanese Government has secured 500,000 doses of the Moderna paediatric vaccine for children aged 6 months to under 5 years in specific at-risk groups.— Mark Butler MP “This is obviously advice from ATAGI that reflects the vulnerability of severe illness of this age cohort. It's advice provided to parents in the interest to the health of their children."
Vaccinations will commence from 5 September. The Vaccine Clinic Finder will list available locations and bookings will open later this month.There is currently a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine available and recommended for children aged 5 to 11 years. "This is under ongoing consideration based on data on the disease burden and epidemiology, vaccine supply, emerging data on vaccine use in this age group, and availability of new COVID-19 vaccines for this age group."
