Covid cases continue to grow among Queensland schoolchildren, but authorities say it is not causing serious illness, while 12 more deaths are recorded in older people on Wednesday.

Queensland is seeing further spread of COVID-19 in schoolchildren, as the state records 12 more deaths in older people on Wednesday.

The state recorded 6596 new cases on Wednesday, a jump from 5286 on Tuesday, although the CHO again stressed the overall trend was still downwards. Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said that had been anticipated, and schools had handled the cases well so far. Dr Gerrard said the cases in children so far backed up previous observations that COVID-19 did not cause serious disease in children.
