NSW data showing infected people over the age of 60 who have been received a booster are about a third less likely to end up in ICU or die than those with two doses.cover the six-week period up to mid-January when NSW was dealing with both omicron and delta variants. It also shows the same boosted group are 90 per cent less likely to suffer a severe outcome than infected people who have had one dose or are unvaccinated.
The study found, for the week ending January 8 after omicron had become prevalent, that unvaccinated COVID-19 patients were 23 times more likely to end up in hospital than triple-vaccinated people.of 10 US states found people who received a third COVID-19 vaccine dose were 82 percent less likely to end up in acute care hospital during the omicron wave compared to the unvaccinated. This is consistent with the NSW data.
The same data showed that only 0.55 per cent of infected people aged over 60 who had received a booster ended up in ICU or died. In comparison, 0.79 per cent of double dose people who were infected suffered a severe outcome, a 31 per cent difference. Nearly one in 10 or 8.74 per cent of over sixty-year-olds that were single or not dosed were admitted to ICU or died.
