Elsbeth Jones says it took 27 hours for an ambulance to arrive and drop her mother in hospital.

A 92-year-old woman spent 11 hours on the floor of her home waiting for an ambulance with a cut head and a broken arm before spending another 16 hours in the vehicle, her family have said. Her family said there was a "culture of lack of respect and constant undermining of the patient's dignity" in hospital before she died in April.

"When we saw her at the end of this it was quite horrendous. She looked a shadow of her former self and she had a haunted look in her eyes," she added. The family has also contacted Welsh Ambulance Service chief executive Jason Killens calling for a "more humane way of coding the circumstances" for each 999 call as "one size does not fit all".

Mandy Rayani, executive director of nursing, quality and patient experience at Hywel Dda, said: "While we are unable to comment on individual patient cases, we are always sorry to hear of any instance where patients feel they have not received an appropriate standard of care.
