Victorian Deputy Premier James Merlino has announced school camps in regional Victoria will resume during term four. “This is a significant step forward for regional Victoria, but it also gives families and schools in Melbourne hope about what the future could look like,” he said.
The Deputy Premier said there were 190 school camps across the state creating approximately $134 million in regional communities. “This is not only significant for the kids and the schools but also for many, many people working in regional communities,” he said. School camps will be conducted in a COVIDSafe manner with regular and enhanced cleaning procedures and only one school allowed at camp locations at a time.

Victoria’s new ‘Stalinist’ legislation goes against all civil liberties | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Rowan Dean says the Victorian government’s new “Stalinist” bill will give the same people who ruined hotel quarantine sweeping and unprecedented policing powers.\n\nThe Andrews government is expected to introduce the COVID-19 Omnibus Measures Amendment Bill which endows particular public servants with the powers of an ‘authorised officer’ to enforce public health interventions.\n\nThe bill – which will last until April 2021 – gives officers the power to detain people whom they perceive to be a high risk person (either with COVID-19 or a close contact) and who refuses to comply with health directives.\n\nMr Dean said the “mind boggles” at these new sweeping authoritarian powers, especially given that the bill entitles the same public servants who failed with hotel quarantine “the powers to run around arresting people”.\n\n“This is what happens when you have Lefty lunatics running your government and riddled throughout your bureaucracy; this is what you get, disaster after disaster”.\n\nSky News host James Morrow said it was by no means an exaggeration to label the new bill as an “absolutely Stalinist piece of legislation”.\n\n“It’s shocking that in the wokest, most Left leaning state in Australia, you would have this sort of legislation which goes against all civil liberties, against all due process,” he said.\n

JobSeeker, JobKeeper cuts will be a ‘shock to the system’ | Sky News AustraliaNews Corp’s Finance Writer Sophie Elsworth says the JobSeeker and JobKeeper cutbacks which will be active in just over a week will be a huge shock to the system.\n\nIt comes as JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments will be wound back for millions of Australians from Monday September 28.\n\nJobKeeper recipients will see their payments cut from $1500 a fortnight down to $1200.\n\nThe coronavirus supplement which goes on top of the flat rate JobSeeker payment will also be wound down to $250 a fortnight instead of $550.\n\n“JobSeeker recipients are going to see a fall of $300 a fortnight, which is going to be a real shock to the system, given they have been receiving this payment for up to six months now,” Ms Elsworth said.\n\nJobSeeker recipients will also have to prove they have looked for up to eight jobs a month under the changes.\n
