Former Socceroo Craig Foster has encouraged Australia’s biggest brands to get behind some of the Matildas players and use them for TV advertisements and sponsorships.
“We have seen some Sam Kerr but even Sam tends to be on football-related commercial products,” he told Sky News Australia.“They are the most marketable athletes, it doesn’t matter women athletes, they are the most marketable athletes in the country.” A new Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed between Football Australia and the Professional Footballers Australia which will see the tiered pay structure scrapped.
It will also see the Matildas’ player payments transition immediately from centralised contracts to match and commercial payments. Foster noted that the deal would put the Matildas in a position to earn an additional $80,000 to $100,000 a year.
