PennDOT officials said the man was trying to assist a broken-down box truck when a passing motorist ran into the disabled truck, propelling it into him.

State police said Monday the striking vehicle was a Dodge Ram truck driven by Keith W. Morris, no address available. Police said their investigation showed Morris’s truck drifted across the right fog lanes onto the right shoulder, and the right side of his truck’s front bumper slammed into the left rear of the Swartz truck.
Hanwell was airlifted from the scene to Holy Spirit Hospital but could not be saved, authorities said. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. Morris and the box truck driver, Sylas J. Pope, both suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. Police also said their investigation into the collision is continuing.
