Before botanical illustrator Maura Chamberlain made her way to Macquarie Island, her experience with sub-Antarctic plants was limited to those in the local botanical gardens. Now she knows what it's like to walk through them.
Over the past four decades, an arts fellowship has allowed dozens of artists to pursue their creative dreams in Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic.Ms Chamberlain is planning to exhibit her work next year, while Ms Parrett is developing a book about a young girl who stows away on an icebreaker.
