Hollywood concept artist Colin Cantwell died this weekend at the age of 90. His passing was announced by his long-time partner of 24 years, Sierra Dall. Cantwell was perhaps best known for designing prototypes for the X-wing Starfighter, the TIE fighter and the Death Star.
The Y-Wing, the Star Destroyer and the Tantive IV were also designed by the concept artist, who was a key collaborator of Star Wars creator George Lucas. Cantwell previously worked for NASA's jet propulsion laboratory. In that role, he fed updates between NASA astronauts and CBS News' Walter Cronkite during the 1969 moon landing .
