Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan last month the future of women’s sport has been under threat with those concerns confirmed on Wednesday., women would not be allowed to play cricket under the Taliban’s rule.

Since the Taliban regained power they have insisted Afghanistan will be governed under a strict interpretation of Sharia Law. “If recent media reports that women’s cricket will not be supported in Afghanistan are substantiated, Cricket Australia would have no alternative but to not host Afghanistan for the proposed test match due to be played in Hobart.”

Australia’s federal minister for sport Richard Colbeck has said Australia’s stance has been passed on to the ICC and other global sporting bodies. “Our perspective has been passed on to the ICC, and we’ve urged other global sporting authorities to take a stand. The decision comes just over a week after the Taliban announced they would allow the men’s cricket teamIn response to the announcement, a spokesperson for Cricket Australia at the time said relations between the Afghanistan Cricket Board and Australia were good.
