Cricket Australia's new 2023-2024 summer timetable was met with criticism after day two of the Gabba Test match was found to be landing on Australia Day for a second time.
The Indigenous cricket star doubled down on her disapproval of the fixtures, bringing to light the impact it would have on First Nations players in the team.

The Queensland captain further called for the public holiday itself to be moved to another date, saying the occasion should be celebrated “on a day that caters for all parts of Australia”. “We really respect Ash’s opinion and understand for many Australians and Indigenous Australians, especially that that’s a day that has different meanings,” Mr Roach said.
“We ask their opinion and seek their feedback and think all things considered starting on the 26th of January was an appropriate time,” he said. Cricket Australia has also insisted the Gabba day-night Test against the Windies will be used as an opportunity for public education on the history of Australia Day and its painful significance to First Nations people.
