In a lengthy police interview, Danushka Gunathilaka said he thought a woman was “a bit weird” when after sex she said that they had been neighbours in Thailand in another life.
Sri Lankan international cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka told police he was a bit scared and worried when a woman he is accused of sexually assaulting started talking after intercourse about them being neighbours in Thailand in a past life, a court has heard.
The court was played Gunathilaka’s two-and-a-half hour interview with police, starting at 4.36am on the day of his arrest. He stated he was a professional cricketer living in Colombo, and matched with the 29-year-old woman on Tinder before they met at the Opera Bar on November 2 and then had pizza for dinner.
Gunathilaka told police he had laughed when the woman mentioned the power, and he asked her about his own past. He said she closed her eyes and said they were neighbours in Thailand.“After that I got a little bit scared. I don’t know why, I got that feeling. I thought she was a bit weird.”“I want to go to the hotel, I don’t want to break curfew,” Gunathilaka told police. He said he had asked the woman to order him a taxi.
Asked by police “At any point, did you put your penis into her without a condom on?” Gunathilaka replied, “No, no, no.”“I never said ‘I want to do it without condoms’, and we did it with condoms,” Gunathilaka said.
