The closure order makes it illegal to enter the property for a period of three months
A Nottingham property has been shut down after neighbours moved out because of the amount of drug-related crime taking place there. Nottinghamshire Police has secured a court order making it an offence to enter the property on Alfreton Road in Radford.
The exceptions to this rule will be the emergency services, landlord or authorised representatives. Nottinghamshire Police said the action follows several reports of drug use and anti-social behaviour at the address. Sergeant Dan Griffin, from the neighbourhood policing team. said: "There has been a disproportionate number of incidents that have required police attendance at the address over the past few years. These incidents typically involve anti-social behaviour and drug-related activity and have caused other residents of the address to permanently move out and seek alternative homes.
The closure order was granted at Nottingham Magistrates' Court during a hearing on March 3. Officers cleared the property that same day, with a private firm being brought in to board the house up. Anyone breaching the closure order could be fined or imprisoned. Inspector Ben Lawrence, who leads the City Central neighbourhood policing team, said: "This action is the consequence of persistent offending and anti-social behaviour which has had a big impact on the local community. I hope this action reassures residents that we will listen to their concerns and take appropriate and proportionate action to deal with individuals who cause harm in the area.
